NEW DELHI/OTTAWA. Prices on the Indian market continue to fall, while the crop prospects are very promising. In Canada, the market is quiet, while Germany's imports have increased.

New crop exerts pressure

The situation on the Indian chickpea market is gradually coming to a head. Sowing has increased considerably, while stocks continue to deplete, and the biggest problem is probably the lack of demand. Purchases have picked up in the run-up to the wedding season, but not to the extent hoped for, meaning that the price falls of recent weeks are continuing - market experts do not see an end to the price reductions any time soon. The new crop expected in February will continue to influence the market and exert additional pressure. Chickpeas, 42-4
