REUS/TEHRAN. While the International Nut and Dried Fruit Council (INC) has finally conceded that the US produced a record crop in 2023/2024, prospects are not quite as encouraging for US pistachios this year. In Iran the market has started to turn.

Surge in global production

Global pistachio production surged by 47% in 2023/2024 as compared with last year. Total supplies are also 21% up at 1.272 million mt. Main driver is the US as the INC has finally revised the production estimate upwards to 677,830 mt (1.493 billion pounds), which is now in line with official crop receipts. This is the largest crop on record and exports surged by 91% between September 2023 and February 2024 as compared with the same period in 2022/2023. Although projections state that US production will continue to rise as new bearing acres
