Sultanas: trading picks up fast

MANISA. Trading has picked up quickly again for sultanas in Turkey after last week’s Eid-al-Fitr holiday. Trouble is that the weather has turned way too warm for the time of year.

Hoping for better weather than last year

Temperatures climbed to 24-28C (75-82F) in Manisa last week and are expected to do the same again this week. Difference, however, is that rain has been forecast at the end of the week. Rain would be highly welcome in the vineyards is it is simply too early for such high temperatures. In general, it is clearly stated that fruitset is less this year.
