KEMPTEN/BRUSSELS. Unusually warm weather prevails in many western European countries and autumn is slow to set in. This ties in with the unusual weather patterns witnessed throughout the EU in spring and summer, with unusually cold and wet conditions prevailing in some parts of the bloc and drought and heat in other parts. EU dairy production has, however, proved remarkably resilient this year and butter is performing really well in the global market.

Limited supplies in Germany

Retail demand is up for butter in Germany with table butter trading at EUR 5.00-5.34/kg at the Southern Butter and Cheese Exchange in Kempten. Milk deliveries have reached their seasonal low and only range 0.4% lower than last year according to Central Milk Market reporting agency ZMB. In France, however, deliveries range as much as 4.9% lower than last year. Fresh bulk butter supplies are limited and suppliers are drawing on frozen butter, which has caused bulk butter quotations to rise to EUR 4.65-4.80/kg in Kempten.
