TEHRAN. Iran exported 903 mt of figs worth USD 2.735 million in January. Average export prices ranged at USD 3.03/kg. At 878 mt worth USD 2.644 million dried figs had a lion’s share in these volumes.

Slump in exports

January’s export volume in fact slumped by more than 41% on the 1,549 mt worth USD 4.665 million shipped overseas in December. This sharp decline is seasonal as demand was high in December but slumped in January, especially since it was no longer possible to ship dried figs to China in time for Chinese New Year, which as celebrated at the start of February. Shipments from Iran to China, which is the most important buyers for Iran’s figs, take about one month.

Yet, it should be noted that the January 2022 exports also range 16.6%
