Peanuts: high palm oil prices stimulate the peanut market

NEW DELHI. As the cost of palm oil is high, especially in Malaysia and Indonesia, Indian peanuts are increasingly coming into the focus of buyers. Ramadan demand has started, but is being dampened by high freight costs.

As in the previous week, Indian peanut prices have managed to climb slightly by USD 10/mt. One reason for this is the sharp drop in palm oil imports to India, as there had been significant price increases here; this is also driving up peanut prices. In Indonesia and Malaysia in particular, prices are now significantly higher, meaning that Indian importers are also selling the newly imported goods at a higher price than the palm oil already in the country.
