Sesame seeds: cultivation down by a third

NEW DELHI/MAPUTO. Smaller acreages in Gujarat are causing forecasts for the summer crop in India to shrink. In Mozambique, meanwhile, sowing has been completed, but a tropical storm is expected in parts of the country.

Gloomy crop forecast for Gujarat

With the fall in prices in recent weeks, Indian market players are hoping for an increase in export demand. Reports that freight costs are declining again could further boost the buying interest of foreign buyers and hulled sesame seeds in particular are in demand.
